30-Apr-2022
As part of MAP’s 30th anniversary, the young wind ensemble from our Preparatory Division, conducted by Terry Szor, performs this world premiere by flutist and composer Valerie Coleman.
During the 2021–22 school year, Coleman joined MAP for a residency through American Composers Forum (ACF) and its BandQuest commissioning and residency program. This culminating piece was co-created by Coleman and MAP students.
Coleman says, “The tone of the piece is all about realizing potential and the special kind of joy for music that young artists have when participating in transformational music training programs.”
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, MAP is a Saturday program for intermediate and advanced music students from New York City’s five boroughs and the tristate area who demonstrate a commitment to artistic excellence
Terry Szor conducts the MAP Wind Ensemble.
Performed and recorded on April 30, 2022, at Peter Jay Sharp Theater
